Free AI training for small business in BC: what's actually free
The search mixes a real free lesson with a US-only offer. Here is what a BC owner can start today.
Free AI training for small business BC owners should mean a lesson you can start without a bill. A lot of what shows up is a certificate that Google limits to United States businesses.
The short answer: Google’s Make AI Work for You videos are free to watch, and Microsoft Learn’s beginner AI modules are free for anyone. A Fraser Valley Regional Library card is free in Delta and includes LinkedIn Learning at no cost. The Delta Chamber of Commerce lists a workshop on 18 November 2026 that is free for members and $20 for future members.
Each option below was on the provider’s own page on 23 October 2026.
What counts as free AI training for a BC small business?
It counts when the provider’s page says free, or at no cost, and a business in BC can open it. A no-cost offer that asks for a United States Employer Identification Number does not.
The lesson is for one job the business already has: a reply a customer is waiting on, or a quote that has to match your numbers. The fix is one lesson, that job, and a check before anyone sees the draft. If you have not picked the job, How to start using AI in your small business, without feeling behind is the page for the first weekly task.
What can you watch from Google at no cost?
On AI training and tools for small businesses, Google says Make AI Work for You is for small and medium businesses, and that you can watch it at no cost on YouTube. The playlist linked from that page is Make AI Work for You, from Grow with Google.
The page says the course teaches Gemini, Gemini Live, Google Workspace with Gemini, and Gemini Notebook. It says NotebookLM is called Gemini Notebook as of July 2026. Lessons include emails, proposals, financial documents, and meeting notes. Google’s AI training page also names a no-cost course for educators and one for students. Make AI Work for You is the one it names for business owners.
The fix is one video, not the series. Watch the lesson that matches this week’s job. Draft it with the customer’s name and the price removed, and put back only facts you already know.
Two offers on the small-business page are not free for a BC shop. The no-cost Google AI Professional Certificate is for United States businesses with 500 employees or fewer and a valid Employer Identification Number. The in-person Make AI Work for You workshops on that page are with chambers of commerce in the United States. If a checkout asks you to pay, it is not one of the free lessons here.
Which Microsoft Learn AI modules are free?
Microsoft’s Learn FAQ says Microsoft Learn training is free and available to anyone who wants to learn about Microsoft products. You can read it without a profile. Signing in is how progress is tracked.
Get started with AI is a beginner module with no prerequisites. Microsoft says you define basic AI terms, practise prompting, summarize an article, and create an image. It names Microsoft Copilot.
Use AI for everyday tasks is also beginner, marked for a business user, with no prerequisites. Microsoft says you will understand generative AI, see ways to use it at home and at work, and write prompts.
The fix is the prompting unit, then one task from the shop. A free module is a sound place to learn the shape of a reply. It is a poor place for a customer’s name, a card number, or a full inbox. What stays out of the box is in Is ChatGPT safe for my customers’ information?.
What does a Fraser Valley Regional Library card include?
Fraser Valley Regional Library’s municipality page lists the City of Delta. The same page also names Langley, White Rock, Maple Ridge, Pitt Meadows, and Port Coquitlam. Getting a library card says signing up is free, in person, with ID that shows your current address. A business in a served area can apply for a free institutional membership with a signed letter on company letterhead.
LinkedIn Learning is video courses in business, software, technology, and creative skills, at the library or at home. The library’s 2 July 2025 blog says this is at no cost with a card. It does not say the catalogue is a set of AI courses. The same blog links Beyond the Buzz: The Future of AI Adoption, an overview of how AI works, including tools such as ChatGPT. AI and You is listed for 5 November 2026, 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., at Hope Library, covering emails, accuracy, and privacy. The page lists no price. Its presenter note is about helping seniors, and Hope is not Delta.
The fix is the card. Open one course that matches this week’s job, and stop there.
What is the Delta Chamber of Commerce listing?
The Delta Chamber of Commerce lists a workshop for 18 November 2026, 8:45 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. PST, at the boardroom, 6201 60th Avenue, Delta. Members are free. Future members pay $20. The page describes a plain-language session on where AI fits the work, where a person still decides, and how to start safely.
If the only value is a product at the end, that is a different kind of hour. The signs are in What a free AI assessment should include, and the red flags.
How do you turn a free AI lesson into one real task?
- Name the job in one sentence. “Reply to the booking change” is a job. “Learn AI” is not.
- Open the one Google video, Microsoft unit, or library course that matches it.
- Do the task with names, phone numbers, and prices removed. If a fact was not in your notes, leave a blank.
- Read the draft against the original. Times, prices, and promises have to be ones you will stand behind.
- Save the wording that worked, so the next reply starts from the shop.
What if you want this done at your desk?
If you want one real task taught on your own screen, with someone beside you, that is a good use of the free hour. Handoff comes to your place. You leave with that one way of working. There are no dumb questions.
What the hour covers is on the local AI help page.
