ChatGPT for small business: which plan, and what it costs in CAD

Most owners either pay for a plan they don't need, or stay on a free login that isn't meant for the whole team. Here's which plan fits, in Canadian dollars.

Most people working alone should use Plus, at CA$25 a month. A small team that shares the work, and wants a workspace where business data is not used for training by default, should use Business. Free and Go are for trying it. Pro is only for someone who uses ChatGPT heavily every day. Enterprise is for larger organizations.

The prices below are OpenAI’s own Canadian dollar prices, checked on 8 October 2026. They are lower than converting the US dollar price yourself.

Paying for the wrong plan

The costly part is not the size of the bill. It is paying for a plan that does not match the work, or staying on a personal login once other people and customer details are involved.

OpenAI says Free, Go, and Plus are for individuals. There is no company workspace and no shared admin. On a shared login, anyone with the password can read the chats. That is a poor fit once staff are involved.

What the business plan adds, if you have been unsure, is specific. OpenAI describes a secure workspace, centralized billing and administration, and no training on your business data by default. That is the reason to move up, not a longer feature list.

Which plan fits

If this is you Start here
You are trying it on everyday writing, with no customer details Free, or Go if you want more room
You work alone and use it most days Plus
Two or more people share the work, files, or customer information Business
One person hits the limits all day, and the work depends on it Pro
You need custom security, invoicing, or a choice of where data is stored Enterprise

You work alone, but customer details will go into the chats. Business starts at two users, so a single seat is not for sale. Plus is the plan you can buy. Before real customer information goes in, follow Is ChatGPT safe for my customers’ information?. When a second person needs a login, Business is the plan with the shared workspace and the no-training default.

The office already runs on Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace. ChatGPT may be the wrong first purchase. Copilot or ChatGPT: which one for a small office? compares them before you pay.

If that office lives in Gmail, Gemini in Gmail for a small business walks through a Monday morning on the Workspace plan you may already have.

You only open it a couple of times a week. Stay on Free until it is clearly saving admin time. Go is CA$11 a month, and the Canadian page says it may include ads.

Prices in Canadian dollars

Loaded for Canada, ChatGPT’s pricing page shows Canadian dollars. Loaded from elsewhere, it shows US dollars. This is the Canadian version from 8 October 2026.

The Bank of Canada daily average on 7 October 2026 was 1.4257 Canadian dollars per US dollar. At that rate, US$20 for Plus is about CA$28.51. OpenAI’s Canadian price is CA$25. Use the Canadian figure whenever OpenAI prints one. Convert only the tiers with no Canadian price.

Plan What OpenAI shows for Canada
Free CA$0 a month
Go CA$11 a month. This plan may include ads.
Plus CA$25 a month
Pro From CA$136 a month, for the lowest of three usage tiers
Business, standard seat CA$27 per user a month billed annually, or CA$34 billed monthly. Minimum two users.
Enterprise Custom. Contact OpenAI’s sales team.

Annual billing is CA$7 less per person each month than monthly billing, or CA$84 per person over a year. Take the annual price only if you expect to keep the seats.

Prices OpenAI lists only in US dollars

The conversions below use that same rate, 1.4257 on 7 October 2026. They are approximate. OpenAI has not published these ones in Canadian dollars.

The Pro help page lists three monthly plans: US$100, US$200, and US$500. There is no annual Pro plan. The Canadian page shows the lowest tier as from CA$136 a month. Use CA$136 for that tier, not a conversion of US$100. The higher two tiers are the ones converted here.

A Business premium seat is on the US dollar business page, not on the Canadian card above. OpenAI describes it as 5 times the usage of a standard seat. The CA$27 and CA$34 prices are the standard seat.

Tier US dollar price Approx. in CAD, converted
Pro 200 US$200 a month about CA$285.14
Pro 500 US$500 a month about CA$712.85
Business premium seat, annual US$100 per user a month about CA$142.57
Business premium seat, monthly US$125 per user a month about CA$178.21

On the ChatGPT website, Canadian dollars are a supported billing currency for standard paid plans. Enterprise is quoted separately. If you subscribe through Apple or Google, that store bills you. Read the price at that checkout, and cancel in the same place you subscribed.

What the Business seat includes

Separate Plus logins are still personal plans. For a standard Business seat, OpenAI’s pages include team access on the web, desktop, and mobile apps, a secure workspace with SAML single sign-on and multi-factor authentication, centralized billing, usage and spend controls, and no training on business data by default. You can also connect tools such as Microsoft 365, Google Drive, and Slack. The plan is for teams of 2 to 200 people.

Enterprise is a custom quote. OpenAI says it adds a longer context window, controls such as SCIM and role-based access, data residency in ten regions, invoicing, and priority support. Price Business unless you need those.

Questions owners ask

I’m on my own. Do I need Business?

No. Plus at CA$25 a month fits most people working alone. Stay on Free or Go while you are testing. Business starts at two users, so look at it when a second person needs access, or when you want the shared workspace and the no-training default.

What does Business add that Plus doesn’t?

A company workspace, not a personal login. You get shared administration and billing, sign-in controls, usage and spend controls, and OpenAI’s statement that business content is not used to train their models by default. It is priced per person.

The US price, converted, is higher than the Canadian price. Which do I pay?

Pay the Canadian dollar price on OpenAI’s pricing page when you check out in Canadian dollars. The converted figures on this page are only for tiers OpenAI does not list in CA$, and they are approximate.

Does the Go plan include ads?

It may. On the Canadian pricing page checked on 8 October 2026, Go says it may include ads. Free, Plus, Pro, and Business did not carry that note.

Where to start

If you are still unsure it will save any admin time, use Free for a week on work with no customer details. If you already use it most days on your own, pay for Plus. If two or more people need it, try Business at the monthly price before the annual one.
